Charles Vickery was an American painter. He is best known for his naturalistic depictions of historic ships in the open ocean and crashing waves in all types of weather and times of day. He deeply loved the ocean and the paintings of Winslow Homer, saying of his subject matter, “All the colors of water come from the sky because every color of the sky is reflected in that water. And the sky has all the colors of the rainbow in it.” Born in 1913 in Hinsdale, IL, Vickery studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The artist died on September 22, 1998 in La Grange, IL.
