Elegant antique watercolor by Annie S. Johnson.
This delicate watercolor is a portrait of a young woman in a pink and white dress sitting in a bamboo chair with her hands crossed in her lap. Her chestnut hair is tired in a pink bow and her cheeks are rosy.
This is an intimate side view on the character and the gazer is bound to wonder what this pensive young woman is thinking about.
This watercolor would look wonderful in more traditional settings and is a lovely addition to any art collection.
Annie Sarah Johnson (1853-1937) was largely introduced to the public in January 1986 in an issue of Art and Antiques Magazine (pgs 46-53). The article was entitled "Discovering Annie Johnson" written by the famous novelist Joyce Carol Oates. Ms. Johnson's works have been exhibited to the public five times since the 1970's. Prior to this period, she was completely unknown until Bruce Blanchard ( a New Haven businessman) discovered her works in a portfolio at a Connecticut estate sale.
