A classic Blue Willow platter, produced by Ridgway, one of England’s most prolific potteries of the 19th century, known for their fine earthen wares and ironstone ceramics. The Ridgway family operated in Staffordshire from the late 18th century, becoming renowned for both their quality and richly detailed transferware patterns.
The Blue Willow pattern, first introduced in England in the late 18th century, is one of the most enduring and beloved designs in British ceramics. Inspired by Chinese porcelain, the romantic scene tells the fabled story of star-crossed lovers, with intricate details of pagodas, weeping willows, birds in flight, and a charming garden landscape. This particular platter features crisp cobalt blue decoration, a well-defined transfer, and the traditional geometric border, hallmarks of early English willow ware.
The platter itself is a wonderfully versatile size, perfect for serving or display. Its generous proportions make it ideal for presenting hors d'oeuvres, cheeses, or desserts, while its vivid blue and white palette brings timeless charm to any table setting or wall display. Whether layered into a collection or styled as a stand-alone accent, this piece is a wonderful addition to any home
